In a hint that the end of his football career may be approaching, global football star Cristiano Ronaldo said in an interview with Vogue published on Sunday that the current season could be his final one on the pitch, bringing 25 years of football achievements to an end.
Ronaldo, 41, said: “This is probably my last year in football, and I want to leave a spectacular legacy.”
His contract with Saudi club Al Nassr is set to expire in June 2027.
Ronaldo has achieved a historic record with his national team and is among the players with the most appearances for Portugal, with 233 caps. He is also the country’s all-time leading scorer with 146 goals.
After taking part in the 2026 World Cup and scoring three goals during the tournament, Ronaldo announced his retirement from World Cup appearances, but did not completely rule out playing for the Portuguese national team again.
Ronaldo said he has a clear idea of what he will do after football and spoke about his desire to spend his time on various activities, including traveling, playing padel and enjoying what he has achieved throughout his career, particularly as he acknowledged that stepping away from football could leave a “big hole.”
